Marzipan Poinsettia Decorations

Marzipan Poinsettia Decorations Recipe
Give your cake or cupcakes flower power with Marzipan!
Yield

4 to 6 Poinsettia flowers

Time

Total time: 1 hour

Ingredients
  • 1-7 oz box Odense Marzipan
  • Red, green, & yellow food coloring paste* or gel
  • * Paste food coloring is generally preferred over liquid, as it won't change the consistency of the Marzipan, as the liquid may.
Directions
1. Take a walnut sized piece of marzipan and set aside for later use.
2. Wearing your gloves, knead red coloring into the rest of the marzipan, until getting the color of poinsettia leaves. If you want both red and pink poinsettia leaves (see picture at top), color two batches.
3. Roll out the tinted marzipan between two pieces of wax paper, to about 1/8” thickness.
4. Lightly press a real poinsettia leaf into the marzipan. Then peel off.
5. Following the leaf’s imprint, cut out your marzipan leaves.
6. Take the reserved marzipan and tint small batches green, yellow, and red. (You may have red marzipan left over from making the leaves.)
7. To Make Buds for Center
8. Stack tiny balls of green yellow, and red marzipan. Green on bottom, yellow in middle, red on top.
9. Press together to slightly flatten. Cut into smaller pieces. Each piece will be a bud.
10. Form the individual buds by rounding each piece, pulling the green colored marzipan up on outside. Cut an X at top of each bud.
11. Place buds in center of the Poinsettia leaves.
