Fruit Tart with Orange Almond Crust

Ingredients

  1. 1-7 oz box Odense Almond Paste (grated using large hole side of a box grater)
  2. 1 cup sugar, divided
  3. 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened
  4. Grated peel of large navel orange
  5. 1 egg
  6. 1 1/2 cups flour
  7. 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  8. 1/4 teaspoon salt
  9. 1-8 oz package cream cheese, room temperature
  10. Fruits of choice
  11. 1/2 cup apple jelly
Get out your pizza pan to make this delightful fruity tart. Odense Almond Paste and grated orange peel give a sweet, citrus flavor to this tasty crust.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease or spray a pizza pan.
  2. Add Almond Paste (grated using large hole side of a box grater), 1/2 cup of sugar, butter and orange peel to mixing bowl. Beat until well combined. Add egg and beat until light and fluffy.
  3. Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Add to mixing bowl. Beat until dough is combined. Scrape dough out of bowl onto a floured counter and shape into a ball. Flatten to a 6" disk and transfer to pizza pan.
  4. Roll out dough, with a floured rolling pin, to an 11" circle. Bake for 15 minutes or until top is golden brown. Cool pan on wire rack.
  5. Meanwhile, add cream cheese and remaining 1/2 cup sugar to mixing bowl. Beat until very creamy.
  6. When crust is cool, frost with cream cheese mixture. Arrange fruit in circles around outside edge, working towards center.
  7. Melt jelly in small saucepan and lightly brush onto fruit. Refrigerate one hour before cutting.
